Columbia Police have identified the shooter involved in a deadly shooting that took place on Friday near Spring Hill High School as 20 year-old D-Qwaun Dalton. Dalton remains in police custody at the Maury County Jail, and is currently being held without bond.

The victim, 21 year-old Kamondrez Carlton, was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center following the incident, where he later died.

“We have not had a shooting of [this] sort in several weeks,” said detective Jeremy Heywood with the Columbia Police Department. “The biggest thing obviously is to call 911 and get the responders on the way, and then to maintain [your] position and be a good witness if they can see safely – if they cannot, certainly the first objective is to keep themselves and their families safe. But do not intervene, and don’t involve [yourself] in the incident [yourself].”

Columbia Police responded to the shooting at the Quik Mart gas station at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Friday, where Carlton was discovered with a gunshot wound to his body. The shooter, Dalton, remained at large until later Friday afternoon.

Police investigation discovered the shooting actually took place at a residence on Daniel Court, a street roughly half a mile northwest of Spring Hill High School.

Spring Hill High School was briefly placed on lockdown during the incident, before returning to normal operations shortly after.

Dalton is charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault, and is being held without bond, and the investigation is still ongoing.
