Next week, Williamson, Inc., is urging those who work and live in the county to participate in Mobility Week, an active experiment of changing commute attitudes for one week.
As a part of that, the county’s chamber of commerce has set up a map of who is participating throughout Williamson.
“The answer to our traffic problem lies with each and every person in Williamson County making some kind of behavior change,” Williamson, Inc. CEO Matt Largen said. ” It could be sending our kids on the school bus, carpooling to soccer practice, walking to eat lunch, or ride-sharing to work with a colleague or neighbor. As an employer, it could be allowing employees to have flexible work schedules so they are off the roadways at peak times or even instituting a work from home program. At Williamson, Inc., we allow employees to work from home one day a week. The menu of solutions, combined with vocally supporting fully funding road and transit projects, will help manage traffic congestion and improve circulation as more people and more companies call Williamson County home.”
From Sept. 12 to 16, the Chamber is partnering with Nissan for the county-wide initiative focused on exploring practical ways that individuals, commuters, corporations, schools and small businesses can work collaboratively to reduce traffic.
Starting Monday, Sept. 12, the chamber will start with School Day, focused on solutions to alleviate the traffic that comes during school hours. As depicted on the interactive map, both Williamson County Schools and Franklin Special School District Schools will participate.
Arguably a favorite, Tuesday, Sept. 13 will act as Food Truck & Rideshare Day, focusing on ways to increase ridesharing and carpooling opportunities. The kickoff celebration start 11:45 a.m. at Harpeth True Value Home Center, located at 203 Downs Boulevard & Columbia Avenue.
A variety of food trucks and restaurants also will serve along Columbia Avenue. The map above shows at least 23 companies will participate in ridesharing or through their food trucks.
According to the map above, only four companies so far are participating in Flex Work Day on Wednesday, Sept. 14. This particular day will focus on encouraging businesses to allow their employees to work from home or have flexible schedules.
Ending on Friday, Sept. 16, Park(ing) Day will feature artists, designers and citizens transforming metered parking spots into temporary public parks.
