Matthew Kormylo grew up working at a local family-run butcher shop in Greenville, South Carolina, loving every part of the business, from preparing meat to working with customers.

He dreamt of opening a butcher shop of his own. And in 2023, he did, cutting the ribbon to his storefront New York Butcher Shoppe off Richard Jones Road in Green Hills. As the shop grew in popularity, the goal expanded. The market is a franchise offering premium cuts of meat (and more) in markets all over the South.

“We’ve had an overwhelming number of customers ask us to come to Brentwood,” Kormylo says. “For many of them, the commute to our Green Hills shop was inconvenient, and there really wasn’t anything like us in the area.”

The Brentwood location opened in mid-July, filling its cases with premium cuts of meat from wild-caught seafood to Heritage pork, all-natural Springer Mountain chicken, and Certified Angus Beef (CAB). Procured from small farms in the Midwest, CAB is one of the highest grades available and not often found in grocery stores.

Beyond meat, the Shoppe stocks prepared foods, including entrees, sides, soups, salads, local groceries and even wines. It’s a true one-stop shop for weekly groceries or to simplify meal deliveries when the family brings on a new baby, is going through bereavement, or just because.

“As a locally owned and operated business, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment where customers feel like family,” Kormylo says.
