The company hoping to build the Two Farms subdivision frequently uses a golf course designed by Tiger Woods as a selling point for the project, but the former golf pro’s involvement hasn’t always been certain.
Beacon Land Development, the company pushing the project, says Woods is back, and he’s excited to get started on the project.
Beacon Land Development’s resident Mike Abbott said the company originally partnered with Woods to design the course, and the company brought him to Thompson’s Station to see the proposed site.
The home page for Beacon Land Development features a video with Tiger Woods talking about a different golf course he designed for one of their developments. The only information about Two Farms on the website is a photo of Woods in Thompson’s Station and some information about his visit.
The plan was to use Woods’s company to design the course at Two Farms, but previously one of the financiers putting up the money for the project wanted to use a different course architect.
“He was only out when Discovery Land Company was coming in,” he said. “Discovery Land Company has traditionally used Tom Fazio as their golf course architect.”
Discovery Land, one of the companies that considered financing the project, has since pulled out. Three different financing companies have signed onto the project and then abandoned it after delays. Abbott said he thinks the current financing company, Reeds International, will stick around because it understands that building Two Farms could take at least 15 years.
Yesterday, the Thompson’s Station Board of Mayor and Alderman gave an initial approval for a zoning change that would permit the construction of Two Farms. Abbot told Woods about the board’s decision, and said Woods was excited to get started on the project.
