The 5th annual Nolensville Kids Triathlon saw 400 children and 1000 people total come together on Sunday for the biggest youth triathlon in Tennessee.

This years race which included swimming, biking and running also partnered with the Nolensville Food Pantry to collect donations for those in need, according to organizer Suzanne Locke.

The 7 a.m. triathlon was broken down into three age ranges with children aged 5-7 competing in a 50-yard swim, 2.5 mile bike ride and 0.7 mile run.

Children aged 8-11 competed in a 100 yard swim, 2.5 mile bike ride and 0.7 mile run and children aged 12-15 competed in a 150 yard swim, 5 mile bike ride and 1.5 mile run.

The triathlon also included seven “Vanderbilt Buddies” teams that paired an able-bodied child with a child with a disability to complete the race as a team.

“This race has sold out every year for the past four years and this was our biggest turnout ever.  Our first year, we had 250 racers and have increased that number steadily every year,” Locke said in an email.

According to Locke, the triathalons, which are presented by the Brentwood Endurance Athletic Team (BEAT) and sanctioned by USA Triathlon, have raised over $20,000 for charity since they began, although the full amount of money raised this year has not yet been released.

The race also included music, costumed superheroes dishing out high fives and every participant received T-shirts and medals.

The Town of Nolensville, Williamson County Parks & Recreation Department and the Nolensville Police Department were also partners in the event along with the help of numerous volunteers.
