UPDATE: Murfreesboro Police report that the motive for Sunday afternoon's fatal shooting stemmed from “loud music.”
“The preliminary investigation revealed the shooter, Marquavious Hampton, 24, of Chapel Hill, became angry due to loud music being played by the mother. This led to an argument and a physical altercation,” a Jan. 27 MPD release said.
“Following the altercation, Hampton shot the one-year-old who was seated in a stroller. The mother was shot in the hand after jumping in front of Hampton trying to shield her baby.”
Police said that the baby was pronounced dead at the scene, and Hampton was tracked in part by the use of license plate reader cameras.
Police said that Hampton died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he fled Williamson County Sheriff's Office Deputies.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the apparent suicide of a man in Williamson County on Sunday who was wanted for killing a baby and wounding a woman in Murfreesboro.
Around 4:30 p.m., 25-year-old Marquavious Hampton was pursued by Williamson County Sheriff's Office deputies near Critz Lane and Columbia Avenue after his license plate was flagged while traveling through the county.
Just two hours earlier, Murfreesboro Police responded to Chelsea Place Apartments for reports of shots fired where they found a one-year-old baby who was fatally shot multiple times. The unidentified baby's mother was also shot with an injury to her hand.
“Shortly after the pursuit began, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby field,” WCSO said in a news release. “As deputies pursued, they observed what appeared to be a firearm in the subject's hand. Moments later, deputies discovered the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound. It is unclear whether the self-inflicted shooting was accidental or intentional.”
Hampton later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
MPD called the shooting an “isolated incident where all parties involved in the deadly shooting in Murfreesboro knew each other,” but no other details have been released at this time.
