This week is the perfect mix of indoor and outdoor activities for the family. First, if you’re feeling nostalgic, grab the kids and head to The Franklin Theater for a morning showing of 1959’s Sleeping Beauty. Or the entire family could enjoy an all-ability-inclusive performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Center. Another indoor option in Nashville is a free celebration of Dr. Seuss at Plaza Mariachi. They treat the kids right at every kid’s party they host, so no matter the theme, it’s worth the time. Your older kids might enjoy the Weed Wrangle at Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary, where you can volunteer and leave with some skills to use in your own spaces. And then there’s a picnic at Deer Run for dads looking to take their daughters somewhere special.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Sleeping Beauty (1959)
The Franklin Theater is hosting a showing of 1959’s Sleeping Beauty as part of its Saturday Morning Cartoon series. The classic tale will play at 11 a.m. on March 1 for between $15-17, depending on age. Buy tickets ahead of time to ensure a spot, and come early: The theater doesn’t show previews. You’ll be done just in time to head over to Meridee’s for some lunch, or if you move fast enough, you can make over to the next event on the list.
The Nashville Shakespeare Festival will perform a weekend of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Center at Academy Park. There will be one showing at 2 p.m. on March 1 and one at the same time on March 2. This production from Nashville Shakespeare Festival is an inclusive production, where Backlight performers, a troupe of actors that features folks of all abilities, will share the stage with professional Shakespearean artists from Nashville Shakespeare Festival.
Deer Run’s Daddy-Daughter Picnic
Last time around, Deer Run was hosting boy moms, but this week they have special events for dads with girls in their house. Families can come out for a daddy-daughter picnic with activities focused on bonding and building a relationship. The picnic happens in a beautiful wooded setting.
The Weed Wrangle at Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary is a daylong, area-wide volunteer effort to clear green spaces of non-native invasive plant species through hands-on removal: aka, weeding. The efforts will be supervised by an expert in invasive weed management, and volunteers will learn through practice how to maintain a habit of keeping areas clear of invasive plants. This event is for folks above 12 years old, and you must register ahead.
The day before Dr. Seuss' birthday, Plaza Mariachi is hosting a kid’s party in his honor from noon to 4 p.m. The free event will be a day of magic and fun inspired by the stories of Dr. Seuss. Interactive activities include a storytime, arts and crafts, a meet-and-greet and a dance party. Face painting, balloon animals and all the majesty of the food court and play center will also be available.
