This week we’ve got nature, art, entertainment, sports and history for the family, some events a combination of several of the above. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Williamson County Performing Arts Center will showcase several iconic musicians and GEODIS Park in Nashville is hosting a special Barbie Game Day to celebrate the month. At Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary, a workshop for beginning birders invites families with older kids and adults to learn more about the hobby and science. The Franklin Recreation Complex hosts several art classes, but this week there’s an excellent one for family members above 10 to learn fluid acrylic painting. And then over in Inglewood near East Nashville, there’s the chance to see some local talented kids perform at Nashville Kids Have Talent.

Naturalist Workshop: Beginning Birding
On March 8 at 8 a.m., bring your 14-year-old-plus folks out for a workshop on birding at Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary. Any minors must have an adult present with them. The session will dive into how to get ready for spring migration and tips for bird watching and bird identification. Techniques will include finding by sight and sound, using a field guide and a digital app. They also plan to highlight the use of binoculars and how to share findings with digital science groups. Limited binoculars will be available, but folks are also welcome to bring their own.
For Women's History Month, Rae Radick is slated to perform a multigenerational show of songs by women at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. The listing describes the show as “high energy” and wide ranging, with songs from Dolly Parton, Cher, Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, Shania Twain, Janis Joplin and many more. Share all your favorite iconic musicians with your children in one evening.
This session at the Franklin Recreation Complex will teach the art fluid acrylic pouring in a hands-on class for folks above the age of 10. An artist teacher will show attendees how to create one-of-a-kind canvas pieces or a coaster set. This class is perfect for the family as it offers step-by-step instruction and all the pieces you’ll need to come in and try it out. There is a $15 supply fee due at the start of class, and attendees should register ahead.
Barbie Game Day: Nashville SC vs Portland Timbers
In celebration of Women’s History Month, GEODIS Park is hosting a special Barbie Game Day for Nashville SC's matchup against the Portland Timbers. On March 8 at 7:30 p.m., the game will offer special drinks as well as an on-site panel discussion with influential women sharing their journeys and insights.
At South Inglewood Park, they’re hosting a performance of Nashville Kids Have Talent. The event will feature a day filled with community performances, including singing, dancing, comedy, magic tricks and more. Talented kids from all over the area will show off their best.
