TriStar to build Spring Hill hospital, following pushback

TriStar Health announced Monday that it intends to build a hospital in Spring Hill, on the site of its current emergency room in the area. 

The hospital will cost $250 million, and offer 68 inpatient beds, plus an intensive care unit, labor and delivery unit, operating rooms, cardiac catheterization services and imaging services, according to a press release. 

The announcement comes after the local brand of Nashville-based for-profit hospital giant system faced pushback from Vanderbilt Hospital, Williamson Health and Maury Regional Health in the area. This year, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation to loosen Certificate of Need requirements for new hospitals, a change that HCA supported, while the Tennessee Hospital Association, including Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Ascension Saint Thomas, opposed it. HCA also received permission to build a $21 million freestanding emergency room in East Nashville, but has yet to begin work on the site.
