Franklin Special School District (FSSD) announced June 12 that Dr. Alisha Erickson will lead both Poplar Grove Elementary and Middle Schools, with the two schools shifting to a unified leadership model to serve just over 600 students.

While the schools previously shared facilities, resources, and a campus while having two separate principles, PreK through 8th grade will now share one principal and three assistant principals. J.P. Orman, former principal of Poplar Grove Middle, will assume the role of assistant principal, joining current assistant principals Josh Bracamontes and Janet Carroll.

“The district is confident that this leadership realignment will enhance the continuity of student experiences and foster stronger collaboration across grade levels,” FSSD wrote in a press release. “This thoughtful move builds on the strengths already in place by enhancing continuity, aligning instructional practices, and deepening collaboration across all grade levels. ”

Erickson has served as principal of Poplar Grove Elementary since 2013, and has contributed to consistent A ratings on the Tennessee School Report Card. Last year, Poplar Grove Elementary earned a “5” in student growth, indicating that students made the highest level of growth on state assessments.

“Dr. Erickson is a connector,” David Snowden, Ph.D., Franklin Special District Director of Schools, said. “She brings the structure and support that empower both students and teachers to thrive. Her ability to build strong relationships and lead with clarity makes her the ideal leader for this PreK – 8 alignment. ”

FSSD also says that Erickson has championed community partnerships aimed at “supporting the holistic development of all students.” Poplar Grove Elementary has one of the most diverse student bodies in Williamson County, with 29 percent of students learning English as a second language, 14 percent of students having disabilities, and over half of students identifying as Black, Hispanic, or Native American.

“Poplar Grove is home to an extraordinary team of educators. I am committed to clear, consistent communication, being engaged PreK-8, and maintaining a strong, visible presence at all grade levels as we continue our work together to create a cohesive, student-centered environment where everyone is valued, challenged, and empowered,” Erickson said.

In Erickson’s time as principal, Poplar Grove Elementary has also maintained a 98 percent teacher satisfaction rate and 94 percent teacher retention rate. She has worked to implement professional development and team activities to build the school’s Professional Learning Community (PLC). In 2025, Poplar Grove was one of only four schools in Tennessee named a Model PLC School.

“I’m honored to serve the full Poplar Grove community in this new capacity. Strong relationships, consistent support, and a shared commitment to learning are the foundation of a thriving school,” Erickson said. “By aligning our leadership and deepening our PLC practices, we can ensure that every student experiences a seamless and supportive academic journey.”

Erickson graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2004 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Teaching. She went on to earn Master’s Degrees from Trevecca Nazarene University and Tennessee State University, and holds a Doctor of Education from Lipscomb University.
