The Williamson County Republican Party will host Louisiana Senator John Kennedy as its keynote speaker at the 2025 Reagan Day Gala.
U.S. Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana)
Kennedy has served in the U.S. Senate since 2017, and was characterized by WCRP Chairman Tracy Miller as a “very dynamic and entertaining speaker.” He has become a standout as a party firebrand serving on the Committee on Appropriations; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Budget; and Judiciary.
Soundbites from Kennedy's public remarks have gone viral online, including his recent comments during a press conference following the deadly New Year’s Day terrorist attack in New Orleans, vowing to "chase those in the federal government" in what Kennedy framed as seeking transparency.
In 2022, Kennedy released a campaign ad in which he stated his support for law enforcement and said, "If you hate cops just because they're cops, the next time you get in trouble, call a crackhead."
The ad served as easy fodder for online memes, drawing the ire of his critics, and still was lauded by some Republican supporters.
Kennedy passed several bills in his first term and claims no other Louisiana senator has passed more bills in his or her first term. He was previously the state’s treasurer for five terms. He is a graduate of political science, philosophy, and economics from Vanderbilt University and received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
The annual event serves as the Williamson County GOP’s biggest fundraiser and will return to Franklin’s Cool Springs Marriott on February 15. It comes on the heels of Republican electoral wins both locally and nationally, most notably with the reelection of former President Donald Trump.
Miller told the Williamson Scene that Williamson County Republicans are “in high spirits and excited” ahead of Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, which will lead to complete GOP-control over the federal government after the start of the Republican-majority led 119th Congress last week.
“We would say that there's been a lack of leadership in so many areas, and so we're glad to get that back,” Miller said. “We hope that's going to be great for all Americans across the board. We do understand that the economy and different things like that do not turn on a dime. There'll be a lot of work. There'll be some ups and downs in this process, but we really hope for a really great trajectory for America and for the rest of the world as well.”
