The Tennessee Historical Commission has announced that 21 projects will be awarded matching grants totaling more than $800,000 from the Federal Historic Preservation Fund.
The fund is allocated to nonprofits, municipalities, universities, and civic organizations across the state to support the preservation of historic and archaeological resources.
“The Federal Historic Preservation Fund grant program allows for the Tennessee Historical Commission to assist communities with projects that document and preserve our state’s significant historic properties,” Patrick McIntyre, state historic preservation officer and THC executive director, said in a release. “These projects are developed with care, supported locally through the required match, and show a true commitment to preservation.”
The Heritage Foundation of Williamson County was among the recipients of the grants. It will be awarded $15,000 for its upcoming county survey, which is in the first year of a multi-year countywide project with focus on African American history.
The Federal Historic Preservation Fund reimburses 60 percent of the project costs with a 40 percent match of project funds from the grantee.
