HCA names chief information officer as veteran exec retires

Locally based hospital giant HCA Healthcare has named Chad Wasserman senior vice president and chief information officer. He replaces P. Martin Paslick, who is retiring after 38 years with the company and 11 in the role. 

Wasserman has worked for HCA for 28 years and most recently served as senior vice president and COO for HCA’s Information Technology Group, which provides strategy and support to the company’s 186 hospitals and 2,400 ambulatory sites of care. In his new role, Wasserman will lead the group, effective Feb. 1. 

“Throughout his career, Chad has demonstrated a strong ability to drive technology solutions across a wide range of business areas,” said Sam Hazen, CEO of HCA Healthcare. “I’m confident in his ability to lead our growing technology agenda to advance digital capabilities across the company.”

The company credits Paslick with launching the one of the largest  hospital iOS platforms in the nation at the time, allowing mobile capacity for the company’s 93,000 nurses. He also launched HCA’s clinical data warehouse, and played a lead role in transitioning the company to Google Cloud, according to a press release.

Paslick’s is the second recent retirement for the company. Earlier this month, Bill Rutherford announced he would retire from HCA Healthcare after 34 years at the company and 10 years as CFO. Mike Marks will replace him in the role, effective May 1.
