Free band concert at Aspen Grove Park

Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department (WCPR) presents a free concert in the park by the Williamson County Community Band on Saturday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Aspen Grove Park in Franklin.

The band will perform patriotic numbers, Broadway tunes and marches under the direction of Ken Krause. Aspen Grove Park is in the Cool Springs area of Franklin, at the corner of Seaboard Lane and Aspen Grove Drive.

The concert is open to the public and picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs are welcome at the concert. No alcoholic beverages are allowed. This is a family event and a playground area and restrooms are available.

Fins and Feet Aquathlon event Aug. 30

WCPR announced the second annual Fins and Feet Aquathlon, a youth swim and run competition Sunday, Aug. 30 at the Indoor Sports Complex in Brentwood.

Fins and Feet is for boys and girls ages six to 14, and will be an official USA Triathlon youth event. Athletes will be divided into three levels. Ages six to eight will swim 50 meters and run one-half mile; ages nine to 11 will swim 200 meters and run one mile; ages 12 to 14 will swim 300 meters and run 1.4 miles.

TRX suspension training in Nolensville

WCPR announced the addition of the TRX Suspension Training system to the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville.

Born in America’s Navy Seal program, the TRX system leverages gravity and the user’s body weight to complete hundreds of exercises. Used in small groups and more affordable than one-on-one training, TRX enhances strength, balance, flexibility and core stability.

Water fitness now included in “Fitness Fanatics” pass

WCPR announced the addition of Aqua Fitness classes to its $35 monthly Fitness Fanatics pass.

Effective Aug. 1, the 34-week Aqua Fitness classes will join more than 150 weekly aerobics and indoor cycling classes already included in the pass.

Monthly fitness passes are offered at five locations and do not require the purchase of any additional facility pass. A $10 discount ($25 per month) is offered to any annual facility pass holder.

With a variety of group fitness styles offered, patrons can take an unlimited number of classes each month, including Aqua Fitness classes, cardio, dance, yoga, indoor cycling and weight training-based programs. The pass also offers individuals access to indoor amenities, like wellness centers, gymnasiums, walking tracks and indoor pools.

Free computer classes for seniors

WCPR and the Williamson County Public Library are teaming up to offer six computer classes for seniors (55+).

The classes will teach the the basics, including: an introduction to computers, using a mouse, Microsoft Word, searching the Internet, email and cell phone applications. Classes will be held at the main branch of the Williamson County Public Library, at 1314 Columbia Ave.

All classes are Fridays from 10-11:30 a.m. Call 615-790-5719, ext. 2010 to register at least three days before the deadline date.

Winter Tennis Contract Lottery set for July 25

WCPR’s Athletics Division will announce the Winter Indoor Tennis Contract Lottery winner Saturday, July 25, 9 a.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex.

The lottery provides the opportunity to purchase a contract for reserved court time for the winter 2015-2016 indoor season at the Indoor Sports Complex in Brentwood.

Lottery participants must be Williamson County residents and pre-registration is open at the Indoor Sports Complex through July 24. Court fees apply, and a deposit is required at contract signing.

Fall Tennis Clinics registration

WCPR’s Athletics Division has opened registration for fall sessions of indoor and outdoor tennis clinics.

Clinics start the week of Aug. 17 and will be offered at these locations: the Indoor Sports Complex in Brentwood, Crockett Park, Ravenwood High School, Granny White Park, Grassland Park, the Franklin Recreation Complex and the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill.

Registration for all Franklin and Brentwood clinic locations is at the Indoor Sports Complex in Brentwood or by phone at 615-370-3471, ext. 2110. To register for clinics at Longview Recreation Center, call 615-302-0971, ext. 2210.

Adult and junior clinics (age five and older) in beginner through advanced skill levels are offered Monday(s) through Saturday(s). Prices vary depending on the duration of clinic. A full class schedule and fees are available at www.wcprathletics.org.
