According to the Williamson County Schools InFocus newsletter, three panel discussions will occur during the session. The first panel discussion providing an overview of testing and how it occurs in the state and district. Representatives from the State Department of Education will be there as well to discuss the results of their task force on assessment.

A second panel will explore teachers’ perspectives on testing, and a third will feature Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, Board Chairman Gary Anderson, and state legislators representing Williamson County.

This meeting was first discussed during a November work session in which board member PJ Mezera introduced a resolution to eliminate K-8 social studies testing in Williamson County.

“The School Board wanted to make sure we were hearing from our stakeholders regarding testing,” Looney said. “This informational meeting will not only provide a way to gather input but will also provide a way to educate our families on how we are assessing students. We will also be surveying our teachers to gather their perspective.

The meeting will be held in the Centennial High School Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m. The meeting may also be live streamed.
