After a weekend full of weather complications, week 7 of the high school football season is here in Middle Tennessee, and hopefully all games will be happening as scheduled.
Our Game of the Week sees two of Williamson County’s oldest rivals clash, as the Brentwood High School Bruins (5-1, 2-0) battle the Franklin High School Admirals (4-2, 2-0) at home Friday night in a crucial region matchup.
Brentwood beat the Admirals 31-17 last season and holds a 17-8 record in the rivalry since 2004. The Admirals last won a game against the Bruins in 2016.
Both teams come into the game in a three-way tie with Ravenwood in the highly competitive Region 6-6A.
Franklin finds itself amid its best season since 2020 under new head coach Josh Adkins. Franklin fired former head coach Alex Melton after the loss to Brentwood last season, at which point the Admirals sat at 0-7 and in the middle of a 22-game losing streak over three seasons. Franklin finished the season 2-8 under interim head coach Donnie Webb. Webb remained on staff as defensive coordinator this season.
Seniors Sean Gaca and Brewer Wilson lead a high-powered Admiral offense and look to continue that this week. Wilson is coming off a five touchdown performance against Summit in which he went 13-21 for 258 yards. Gaca grabbed two of those touchdowns for 77 yards to follow up his Player of the Week performance in Franklin's 32-3 win over Nolensville in week 5.
The Bruins boast a three-game streak of scoring over 30 points coming into Friday’s matchup. They throttled Overton 42-6 last Thursday, marking the third straight game the defense allowed six points or less.
Bruin running back Gavyn Nelson nabbed a rushing and receiving touchdown in the victory, while freshman wideout Hank DeGennaro grabbed two touchdown receptions of his own.
J.C. White threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, while Canon Kinder added another through the air as the two split time at quarterback. Defensively, senior Parker Emerson found the end zone on an interception return for a touchdown in the victory.
This year’s contest could come down to which team can keep a lid on the others' high-powered offense and limit mistakes when the two teams meet in Brentwood at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Other notable matchups on tap for week 7 include another all-WillCo outing as unbeaten Ravenwood (6-0) visits Summit (1-5). Nolensville travles to Hillsboro in a clash of 4-2 squads. Both games take place on Thursday.
Friday's top matchups include unbeaten Page (6-0) heading to Lawson (2-4) and undefeated Franklin Road Academy (6-0) at Davidson Academy (3-3).
