The largest-ever budget for the Town of Thompson’s Station went into effect on July 1 after being unanimously approved in a June 10 BOMA meeting. After a reassessment of all county property, the town will maintain its current tax rate of $0.103 per $100 of assessed property, the lowest in the county.

After the Williamson County Property Assessor’s reappraisal of all taxable property (which takes place every four years), Thompson Station’s base tax rate is now $0.0628 per $100. However, the city will continue with a rate of $0.103 per $100 in order to use the extra $0.0402 to fund city projects and improvements.

Thompson’s Station Town Administrator and Planner Micah Wood said that the town is excited to make investments in its future.

“This is the town’s largest ever budget, but it’s large because it’s action-oriented and results-oriented,” Wood said.

Some of these improvements include positions for an additional six town employees, a pay step increase of 2.5 percent for all staff, and increasing the speed and efficiency of existing services.

Thompson’s Station is also planning a large investment in Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs). Of a projected $7.34 million to be spent in CIPs, 73 percent — or $5.37 million — will be spent in transportation projects. Transportation projects include ongoing work on Thompson’s Station Road East, resurfacing Evergreen Road and the construction of new trailways and multi-modal pathways. Many of these projects will continue into future fiscal years.

The remaining nearly $2 million will be spent on CIPs in facilities, park improvements, equipment, and fleet vehicles. This year, projects in those areas include upgrades to the interior of Thompson’s Station Town Hall, replacing an old public works vehicle and the purchase of a mini excavator for city use. Various park improvements will total $785,000.

The budget went into effect July 1 and will fund the town through June 30, 2026.
