Roy Nicholson, III, appears at his Oct. 28, 2024, sentencing hearing in Franklin following his August conviction for running over a Franklin Police officer in 2022.

A Columbia man who failed to report to a five-year prison sentence earlier this month was arrested on Tuesday.

As previously reported, 28-year-old Roy Nicholson, III, was found guilty of a variety of crimes in August 2024 for running over a Franklin Police officer in 2022.

Nicholson had been free on a $40,000 bond after his trial until his sentencing in October 2024. He was sentenced to serve five years in prison, but he was given a new $1,000 bond and was ordered to report to serve that sentence on Jan. 2.

Williamson County Circuit Judge Deanna Johnson made that ruling in order to give Nicholson the opportunity to get his affairs in order and continue to financially support his girlfriend who, at the time, was weeks away from birthing the couple's second child.

"I'm going to show you some grace on this reporting issue because I know you've got a baby coming," Johnson told Nicholson during the sentencing hearing.

Nicolson failed to turn himself in on Jan. 2, as ordered, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On Tuesday, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office arrested Nicholson at his girlfriend’s Columbia home.

Assistant District Attorney Carlin Hess told the Williamson Scene that he plans to present a misdemeanor charge of failure to report to jail to a grand jury.
