The Brentwood High School girls basketball team defeated the Page High School Patriots 47-35 to capture the 2024-25 District 10-4A tournament championship Monday night.
Both teams found themselves tied at 10 after the first quarter, and Brentwood (23-4) led 18-15 at halftime. Brentwood used a 15-7 third quarter to pull away from the host Patriots and claim a 33-22 lead.
Page (24-7) did a good job limiting the Bruins all-time leading scorer and regular-season district MVP Ella Ryan to just nine points, but the Patriots could not find an answer for second-team all-district guard Olivia Costagna. She finished with a game-high 18 points, which helped to earn her all-tournament team honors along with Ryan.
First-team all-district performer Mary Elizabeth Fox paced the Patriots with 10 points and fellow first-teamer Samantha Lee added five points. Fox also earned all-tournament team honors
The postseason will continue for both teams, as they qualified for the Region 5-4A tournament, which begins Friday. Each teams will host a first-round games.
Last year’s tournament champions, Nolensville High School, provided some fireworks in the third-place game, which preceded the championship. The Knights (24-4) defeated the Franklin High School Admirals 61-59 in a last-second thriller.
After trailing essentially, the whole game and erasing a 35-23 halftime deficit, Nolensville forced a five-second call, which led to a go-ahead three-pointer by Josie Ladd with 2:27 left to play in the fourth quarter to give the Knights a 57-56 lead.
Franklin (14-12) later tied the game at 59-59 after first-team all-district post player Cecile Brandimore scored the last of her game-high 30 points, splitting a pair at the free-throw line with 22.5 seconds left in the game.
Nolensville then held for the last shot. Second-team all-district guard Olivia Galloway found Ladd underneath the basket for a layup as time expired to give Nolensville the victory.
Ladd, only a freshman, finished with 21 points. Sophomore Nyla Johnson added 18. Ladd’s performance helped earn her in her spot on the all-tournament team along with Brandimore.
Nolensville advances to the region tournament, where they fell in the second round last season to Lincoln County High School. Both the Knights and Admirals will have to travel for road contests when this year’s tournament, which begins Friday.
