The Brentwood Public Works Department is looking for a full-time maintenance worker.

The job involves heavy manual work functions related to road construction and maintenance, drainage, erosion, signage and more within the Public Works Department. Duties and responsibilities include operating equipment, providing heavy manual labor and assisting more experienced journeymen in labor-related duties.

The maintenance worker will operate and maintain equipment and machinery used in street and roadside maintenance, including power mower, edger, chipping machine, motor vehicle, chain saw, power washer, post driver and other equipment as required.

Some heavy manual labor functions for landscaping and roadside projects include cutting trees, spreading salt or gravel, patching roads, removing trash or litter, painting, washing trucks, cleaning ditches or storm drains, sweeping, mopping and cleaning as directed.

The maintenance worker will also assist in labor-related duties involving bricklaying, pipe laying, sign installation, asphalt repair, right-of-way maintenance and more, as well as repairing storm drainage lines as instructed.

The minimum training and experience required includes junior high school education, and a high school diploma or GED is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have some construction and maintenance labor experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience for the job. A valid driver’s license is required and a valid commercial driver’s license may be required.
