Football Roundup: BGA, CPA to Meet in State Title Game; Page, Ravenwood Onto Semifinals

Week 3 of the TSSAA high school football playoffs took place this week as a number of local teams continued the march to a potential state championship. 

Let's take a look at which Williamson and Davidson County teams advanced and which ones were eliminated. 

Class 3A

Page 28 Shelbyville 6

Another week, another dominant victory for Page as the Patriots (13-0) continue to make quality playoff opponents look overmatched. On Friday night in Rudderville, Page allowed just one touchdown to Shelbyville (11-2). On the season, the Patriots have now allowed 24 total points.

Defensive ace Brenden Anes, who flipped his commitment to Tennessee last month, got the scoring started with a short touchdown run late in the first quarter. 

Two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, an 8-yarder form Mitchell Grandjean and a 72-yarder from William Wiebush, pushed the Page lead to 21-0 at halftime.

The scoring slowed in the second half, with Page maintaining its lead in the third quarter. Wiebush and Anes linked up for a 27-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring for the Patriots.

Page advances to the semifinals, where they will look to make a fourth straight championship game. In the way stands Springfield (8-5), who entered the postseason with a .500 record but has reeled off three consecutive wins. Springfield will host. 

Class 6A

Ravenwood 38 Stewarts Creek 14

WCS schools went 2-2 in advancing to the state semifinals on Friday night as Ravenwood (13-0) took care of business at home against Stewarts Creek (11-2).

The Raptors struck first as Femi Bablola found Ben Hubbard for a touchdown with 7:40 left in the first quarter. Babalola tossed a second touchdown in the second quarter to build the lead to 14-0. 

From there, the ground game took over for Ravenwood. Caden Pace, Maverick Chance and Davis Dowland each ran in a score, expanding the lead to 38-0 less than five minutes into the second half. 

Ravenwood will travel to Germantown in West Tennessee to take on Houston (11-2) with the hopes of reaching the state title game for the first time since falling to Maryville in 2019.

Division II-A

Nashville Christian 62 Jackson Christian 34

Highly touted quarterback prospect Jared Curtis scored seven total touchdowns to lead Nashville Christian (11-1) back to the state final for the first time since consecutive appearances in 2021 and 2022. 

The 5-star junior was 21-28 through the air for 235 yards, six scores and no interceptions. He also ran for 118 yards on 17 carries with one touchdown.

The Eagles will be taking on Donelson Christian Academy (11-2) for an All-Nashville final.

Division II-AA

CPA 34 Boyd Buchanan 7

In a showdown of undefeated teams, Christ Presbyterian Academy (13-0) remained unbeaten with a dominant win over Boyd Buchanan (12-1) at the Lion's Den. CPA advances to the Division II-AA title game for the seventh consecutive season. 

The defending state champions started out relatively slow, with Bradshaw Klym's 14-yard touchdown as their only score of the first quarter. But the Lions turned up the heat in the second quarter.

Tennessee baseball commit Hutson Chance found Georgia football signee Owen Cabell for a 54-yard score. Then, Rawls Patterson ran in a 22-yard touchdown to put CPA ahead 20-0 at halftime.

Klym ran in two more touchdowns in the second half, one each in the third and fourth quarters, to secure the win for the Lions.

CPA will be facing Battle Ground Academy (11-2) in the state championship game.

Division II-AAA

Baylor 35 Brentwood Academy 21

McCallie 31 Ensworth 7

Division II-AAA continues to be run by Baylor (12-0) and McCallie (10-2) after they eliminated Brentwood Academy (8-4) and Ensworth (11-1), respectively. The two schools out of Chattanooga will meet for a championship for the second year in a row. They have combined to win the last five DII-AAA state titles.
