It’s known as the unofficial last weekend of summer, but there is always plenty to do to celebrate Labor Day. There’s a chance to learn about our rivers, take in a musical at the Factory at Franklin, and enjoy some free music in Leiper’s Fork. The biggest attraction in the area, however, is the 41stannual Franklin Classic in downtown Franklin.
Harpeth Conservancy and REI event

When: Friday, 7-8 p.m.
Come learn about the issues impacting area rivers from a science perspective and how you can help.
Learn about nutrient pollution and harmful algae that can grow in rivers, creating hazardous conditions for humans, pets and wildlife, and potential solutions to these issues.
Mamma Mia!
Where: Jamison Theatre, Factory at Franklin
When: Continues Aug. 30 through Sept. 8
Studio Tenn, Franklin’s professional regional theater company, begins its10th anniversary season with this hit musical featuring a cast of Broadway alums, music industry professionals and local college students. Tickets are available at studiotenn.com/mamma-miaor by calling 615-541-8200.
Fork Fest 2019
Where: Leiper’s Fork
When: Saturday, 7 p.m.
The community of Leiper’s Fork is hosting its seventh annual Fork Fest, a free outdoor concert. This year’s event will feature Kyshona at 7 p.m. and the Keb’ Mo’ Band at 8. It will take place at the Lawn Chair Theater. Don’t forget to bring your own lawn chair!
Franklin Classic
Where: Downtown Franklin
When: Monday, 6:15-10:30 a.m.
It’s the 41st running of this classic event that is held each Labor Day to benefit Mercy Community Healthcare, which has provided comprehensive primary care and behavioral health services for 20 years.In addition to the races — a 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run and a 1K Kids Run —there will be live music, a free Fun Zone, face painting, vendors and more. The Franklin Classic is truly a Franklin treasure.
