Next week, Brentwood residents will get the chance to meet their next potential city manager.

Three candidates, Rebecca Fleury of Battle Creek, Mich.; David Jones of Ankeny, Iowa; and Richard Reade of Okeechobee County, Fl., will speak with community members at an Oct. 30 meet and greet at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library.

Fleury was the longest-serving city manager in Battle Creek's history, from 2014-2024, and was the first woman to hold the position.

Jones currently serves as Ankeny City Manager, a role that he's had since 2013, while Reade currently serves as Deputy County Administrator of Okeechobee County, having joined that county's government in 2021.

In April, longtime City Manager Kirk Bednar announced his pending 2025 retirement, having served in the role since 2013. Previously, he served as assistant city manager from 2000 through 2013. In 2022, he was named City Manager of the Year by the Tennessee City Managers Association. 

The Brentwood City Commission approved a $24,500 contract to hire Government Professional Services, an executive search firm, to do a national search. The city reports having received more than 30 applications, a number which has now been narrowed down to the final three applicants.
