BGA, Page Bring Home Football State Championships

The 2025 TSSAA high school football state championships took place in Chattanooga over the weekend, and a pair of Williamson County schools are bringing home the state title trophy.

After falling agonizingly short in four consecutive state finals, the Page Patriots have finally been crowned state champions. In a rematch of last season's Class 5A title match, Page defeated Sevier County 21-14 to cap off a perfect 14-0 season and win the program's first state championship.

Senior linebacker Cohen Grissom, an Air Force commit, was named the game's MVP after collecting 14 tackles, 2 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups. The Page defense held Mr. Football finalist Cooper Newman to just one touchdown, including none through the air. 

Junior quarterback Cam Kruse led the way on offense for the Patriots, passing 15 of 20 for 135 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. The first touchdown went to Knight Wilson, another Air Force commit, while the game-winner was snagged by Samford signee Cayden Aukerman with under a minute to play. 

Battle Ground Academy (13-1) lit up the scoreboard with a 61-27 win over Franklin Road Academy (11-2) in the Division II-AA state championship game to bring home the program's seventh title and first since 2003. 

BGA avenged last year's championship game loss with style, tying the record for touchdowns in a title game with nine. Senior quarterback Kaedyn Marable, a Columbia signee, was named MVP after passing 24 of 31 for 384 yards, four touchdowns and no picks, and rushing for 61 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. Marable also served as the team's punter, averaging 50.3 yards on three kicks.

Sophomore Max Curry caught nine passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns, and freshman Maddox Porter grabbed nine catches for 152 yards and a score. On defense, Will Johnson snagged an interception, and Evan Kellum forced and recovered a fumble, both of which were returned for scores.

In the Class 6A title game, Ravenwood's (14-1) unbeaten season came to an end with a 62-21 loss to Oakland (15-0). The Patriots have now won four of the last five state titles. 

Oakland junior Craig Tutt tied a TSSAA championship game record with seven touchdowns, all of which came on the ground. He ran 32 times for 226 yards.

Senior quarterback Maverick Chance, a Navy commit, led the Raptors on offense with 68 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Fellow senior QB Femi Babalola, a Boston College signee, added a score on the ground. 

In the Division II-AAA championship outing, Brentwood Academy (11-1) came up just short of an undefeated season, falling to Baylor (12-0), in what was essentially a road game, 28-24. 

Baylor's David Gabriel Georges, the state's top-ranked player in the class of 2027, was named the game's MVP after rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. He also caught three passes for 60 yards and a score. 

Brentwood Academy's Larry Sanders II also turned in a high-level rushing performance, totalling 215 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries. 

On defense, Miami (Ohio) signee Easton Jointer and junior Hill Strong both snagged interceptions. Junior Romel Koon added a forced fumble. 

In Division II-A, Nashville Christian and the top-rated quarterback in the country Jared Curtis (fresh off committing to Vanderbilt) dominated USJ 59-7. Curtis passed 14 of 19 for 205 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 78 yards and a score on four carries.

In Class 4A, Pearl Cohn lost 47-27 to Alcoa.
