James Dwight Smith, 79, of Nashville, TN was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
Jim was born in Athens, Alabama, on June 21, 1946, son of the late Hubert and Edith Smith.
A devoted father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend, Jim was best known for his signature dad jokes, kind heart, witty wisdom, and unwavering love for his family, especially his beloved twins and grandchildren, whom he often regarded as his greatest joy and life’s most meaningful accomplishment.
Jim is survived by his children, Michelle Smith and Mickel (Lucia) Smith, and their mother, Sawan; brothers, Donald (Linda) Smith and Phillip (Betty) Smith; Joan Heathcoat; grandchildren, Lia Smith and Mason Smith; beloved grand-dogs, Dweeb and Bailee; nieces and nephews; and great friends, Tim and Jill Riggs.
Jim is preceded in death by Jane Dodson, Linda Brown, and Morris Smith. His legacy of love, laughter, and integrity will live on in all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Franklin Community of Faith Church, 506 Jordan Road, Franklin, TN 37067. Funeral service and burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
The family welcomes flowers as a tribute to Jim’s memory and they may be delivered to Franklin Community of Faith Church, 506 Jordan Road, Franklin, TN 37067.
