The Harpeth River Watershed Association called off its Martin Luther King Day of Service project due to frigid temperatures.
A dozen volunteers were going to plant more than 100 trees on a stretch of eroding bank today on the Little Harpeth River near the Brentwood YMCA.
The temperature at planting time didn’t go above 19 degrees.
“We thought the forecast might change but it looks like it will not,” said Crystal R. Coldiron, AmeriCorps Vista Volunteer and event organizer. “We plan to reschedule the event for later on in this month and will release more details once we find a day to have it on.’
The new trees are meant to stabilize the river bank, reduce soil erosion, and improve overall water quality of the river.
