Brentwood-based behavioral health company Acadia has acquired three opioid treatment programs in South Carolina. 

A release does not include the acquisition price.

The move represents the company’s first foray into comprehensive centers for treatment of opioid use disorder in the state.

The news follows Acadia recently agreeing to pay $19.85 million to settle the company’s federal False Claims Act violations. The Securities and Exchange Commission also fined the company $1.4 million for violating whistleblower protection rules. 

“South Carolina is an underserved market with clear, unmet treatment demand for those suffering from opioid use disorder,” Acadia CEO Chris Hunter said in the release.

“We are proud to help address the needs of the patients, families and communities who will benefit from individualized, high-touch support. These three clinics have excellent reputations in creating positive outcomes for patients through the combination of medication-assisted treatment and clinical services.”
