With Some Like It Hot arriving at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center next month, now’s the perfect time to revisit the iconic 1959 Billy Wilder film on which this delightful new musical is based.
The classic comedy – starring Jack Lemon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe – follows a pair of Chicago musicians forced to disguise themselves as women and make a run for it after witnessing a mob hit. And while some movie-to-stage adaptations work better than others, Some Like It Hot really is outstanding – capturing all of the madcap humor and magic of the original, while offering a more modern exploration of identity, self-discovery and friendship. And thanks to a terrific new series from TPAC and the Franklin Theatre, you can experience both versions of the story.
